Balance and Fall Prevention

Diminished balance and resulting falls can be reduced with physical therapy. Loss of balance is multifactorial and can be the result of muscle weakness, sensory loss, decreased vision, vestibular abnormalities (the inner ear and central nervous system area that controls the position of the body in space), medication use and/or cognitive dysfunction. If you notice you are becoming fearful of falling, have fallen, or are having difficulty with balance, our physical therapists will assess and determine the best treatment for your needs.

Assessment and treatment plans

Our balance and fall prevention program includes assessment and treatment of your vestibular system, strength training, balance challenges, and education for the home environment. We have state of the art equipment to train your body to accept balance challenges and to adapt. When adaptation is not possible due to age or cognitive decay, our physical therapists will outline activities and modifications to make the environment as safe as it can be.

Diabetic care and injury prevention

Physical therapy can help in the management of foot care through multiple treatment methods with the goal of injury prevention. A common source of injury is falling, which can cause superficial tissue injuries like cuts and bruises, as well as more deep injuries like sprains and fractures. Physical therapy can help promote healthier mechanics by improving strength and range of motion to reduce the risk of falls.
